Recharge and Rejuvenate at Gareloch Cottage This Winter...

Writer: Steve ClarkeSteve Clarke

January and February are perfect months to plan a getaway or a restful break at Gareloch Cottage. After the whirlwind of the holiday season, having something to look forward to can lift your spirits and help recharge your energy. With fewer crowds it's an ideal time for travel—whether you're craving a cosy staycation, a wellness retreat, or an adventurous escape. Taking this time for yourself sets a positive tone for the year ahead.

Book your stay and begin the new year with tranquility and inspiration.

At Gareloch Cottage, we’ve crafted a few restorative ideas to help you make the most of your stay:

Explore Nature

Immerse yourself in the stunning surroundings with peaceful walks. From local trails, beach walks and to nearby treasures like Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, Arrochar, and the Three Lochs Way, there’s a path for every energy level. Whether strolling along the loch, hiking through the woods, or exploring majestic mountain landscapes, the beauty of Scotland will leave you feeling refreshed.

Yoga and Mindfulness

Start your day with a calming mindfulness practice. Our friends at The Journey in Helensburgh offer yoga and meditation classes tailored to help you unwind, with special packages available to Gareloch Cottage guests (bookable via our website). Alternatively, try some solo meditation by the loch, setting a tranquil tone for the day ahead.

Wild Swimming

For the adventurous spirit, try a dip in the sea loch right across from the cottage! While it’s not for the faint-hearted, cold-water swimming has become an essential morning routine for many of our guests. The clear waters offer a bracing yet invigorating experience.

Winter Wildlife Watching

Scotland’s winter landscapes are alive with wildlife. Around Loch Lomond, keep an eye out for Arctic hares in the mountains, red deer, and native red squirrels in the lower regions. With nearly 200 bird species in the area, including winter visitors, it’s a birdwatcher’s paradise—so don’t forget your camera and binoculars!

Capture the Magic with Winter Photography

The shorter days in Scotland create stunning light, perfect for photography enthusiasts. From snow-capped Ben Lomond to the serene waters of Gareloch, you’ll find endless inspiration. Take advantage of our cottage’s panoramic terrace views for sunrise, sunset, and the serene beauty of boats bobbing on the water. On clear nights, you might even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Cosy Evenings

When the day winds down, settle in with a good book from our cottage library. On clear nights, brew a hot drink and head to the terrace for stargazing—you might be lucky enough to witness the magic of the Northern Lights.

Pamper Yourself

Dedicate some time to self-care. Enjoy a warm bath infused with essential oils or indulge in a DIY spa session with face masks. This is your time to relax and recharge.

Digital Detox

Unplug from screens and reconnect with yourself. Spend time journaling, sketching, or simply soaking in the peaceful surroundings to refresh your mind and soul.
